The Marine Peace and Collaborative Coastal Governance Initiative was implemented by IFES Institute in partnership with the Ministry of Fisheries and East Africa University (EAU). The partnership brought together government and academic stakeholders to support collaborative approaches to marine resource governance and coastal peacebuilding.
The initiative reflects IFES’s distinctive “Fisheries as a Tool for Peace” approach, using fisheries governance and marine resources as entry points for dialogue, cooperation, conflict resolution, and social cohesion. It demonstrates how sustainable fisheries management can contribute not only to environmental and livelihood outcomes but also to peaceful and inclusive coastal communities.
